Today we will fly from our homes to Prague, Czech Republic.
Day 2: July 25: Prague
Upon arrival into Prague – we will do an overview tour of the city, along with a boat ride on the Moldau (Vltava) River, before heading to our hotel. (Transfers are included if you booked our group airfare or your flight arrives on or before and departs on or after our group flights.)
Day 3: July 26: Prague
Today will be a highlight day as we visit our second favorite city in Europe – Prague. We will explore the castle area, do a city tour along with exploring the old town. You will also have free time to explore the ancient streets on your own. Overnight Prague.
Day 4: July 27: Prague – Regensburg – Nuremberg
This morning we will travel to Regensburg, which is one of the largest medieval old towns in Germany and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After our tour we will drive to Nuremberg to overnight.
Day 5: July 28: Nuremberg
Today will be a full day. Nuremberg was home to Hitler’s Third Reich and so much history. Our afternoon tour will include the wonderful preserved old town and its castle. We will overnight in Nuremberg.
Day 6: July 29: Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Oberammergau
Today you are in for a treat. We are going to visit possibly our favorite ancient walled city in Europe – Rothenburg ob der Tauber. With its well-preserved old town that is completely enclosed by a medieval city wall. Its characteristic half-timbered houses embody the charm of times gone by. After our tour of Rothenburg, we are going to head to Oberammergau.
Day 7: July 30: Neuschwanstein Castle
Another highlight day as we visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle – often called the Disney Castle. In the afternoon we will return to the quaint village of Oberammergau – Home of the PASSION PLAY. You will have time to explore and shop in this wonderful village.
Day 8: July 31: Linderhof Palace – Ama Cruise Ship
Before heading to our wonderful cruise ship, we will experience Linderhof Palace. The Palace and the grounds surrounding it are stunning and not to be missed. Late this afternoon we will arrive at our deluxe cruise ship on the Danube.
Important Note: AmaWaterways includes your shore excursions. In many of the ports of call, the ship may offer different shore excursions, often including a bicycle tour. Our owners have selected what they felt to be the best shore excursion for each port. After you arrive at the ship, if you decide that you would like to make a change to a different tour, you can make that change onboard. Please note that the shore excursions we recommend in the day-to-day itinerary below could be different from what the ship offers in 2027. This is the best of what they are currently offering. Once in a while, the Ship may offer a premium shore excursion, like a concert, that does cost extra.
Day 9: Aug 1: Passau
Discover the city of Passau, known as the “City of Three Rivers”. Enjoy a walking tour where you can marvel at Gothic and Italian Baroque architecture along with a visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
Day 10: August 2: Linz (Salzburg)
Today is a lovely day, especially for those who love “The Sound of Music”. We will enjoy a full-day excursion to Salzburg and tour the historic center, Mirabell Gardens, Residenz Square and the Old Market. En route to Salzburg, we stop at Mondsee, home of the Basilica St. Michael, where the famous wedding scene in “The Sound of Music” was filmed.
Day 11: August 3: Weissenkirchen – Melk
Head up to the Sun Deck for panoramic views to unwind with a scenic cruise through the Strudengau and UNESCO-designated Wachau valleys. After reaching Weissenkirchen, you can take a walking tour of Dürnstein before visiting the UNESCO-designated Melk Abbey.
Day 12: August 4: Vienna
Vienna is a truly elegant and romantic city. We will do a city tour that will allow you to fully appreciate the grandeur of Vienna. During the afternoon, Amawaterways may include a visit to the UNESCO-designated Schönbrunn Palace and Gardens, the main summer residence of the Habsburg rulers. Built in the 18th century as an imperial summer residence, this magnificent 1,441-room Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historical monuments in Austria. However, if this is not included in the regular itinerary, they may offer it as a separate tour for an additional cost. In either case, we recommend doing this tour. If AmaWaterways offers a Strauss & Mozart Concert in the evening, we do recommend going, which would also be an additional cost to you.
Day 13: August 5: Bratislava
Enjoy Bratislava, Slovakia with an Old Town walking tour. During your free time, you can take an easy hike up to the castle overlooking the town with great views of the city and river. We did not find the castle worth going into. It looks like a castle on the outside but looks like an office building on the inside.
Day 14: August 6: Budapest
This morning we will tour Budapest. The tour will include a visit to Buda Hills and St. Mathias Church and the Fishermen’s Batons. Continuing on to the elegant part of Pest, we stop at the Hero’s Square before returning to the ship.
Day 15: August 7: Zagreb – Ljubljana
We will leave early this morning for Zagreb. This is approximately a 4-hour drive. After our tour in Zagreb, we will continue an additional two hours to Ljubljana, where we will overnight for the next two nights.

We will then head to another highlight – the extraordinary Predjama Castle listed in the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest cave castle. After we are finished with this fantastic highlight day, we drive approximately 2 hours to Venice. It is easier to get airfare home from Venice than it is from Ljubljana. If we arrive in time, you may be able to go into Venice to explore and have dinner. We will be in Venice overnight and fly home tomorrow.
Day 18: August 10: Fly Home
Today we fly back to the U.S. and home. (Transfers are included if you booked our group airfare or your flight arrives on or before and departs on or after our group flights.)
