Itinerary
Day 1: Thursday, February 11: FLY TO DELHI
Day 2: Friday, February 12: ARRIVE DELHI
When booking your flight, you will want to book one that arrives in Delhi sometime on the 12th or early morning of the 13th. You will have a room the night of the 12th booked and ready for your arrival. Welcome to India! Accommodation: Taj Palace Hotel
Day 3: Saturday, February 13: DELHI
We will begin touring sometime around midday and visit the peaceful Bahai’i Lotus Temple and Gardens and the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Sikh Temple, known for their sacred pool and langar service (feeding over 30,000 people each day!) Accommodation: Taj Palace Hotel
Day 4: Sunday, February 14: DELHI
Today we visit Old Delhi, first at the Jama Masjid: The largest mosque in India. We will take rickshaw rides in the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk and spice markets. Later, we visit the final home and place of martyrdom of Mahatma Ghandhi, and the spectacular Akshardham Hindu Temple Complex. Accommodation: Overnight at Taj Palace
Day 5: Monday, February 15: DELHI – VARANASI
This morning, we will fly to the ancient city of Varanasi on the Ganges, one of the holiest and most sacred cities in Hinduism. On arrival we will visit the birthplace of Buddhism, a place of pilgrimage for millions of Buddhists and then participate in the evening Ganga Aarti (a fire ritual and prayer offered each night on the banks of the Ganges) Accommodation: Taj Ganges
Day 6: Tuesday, February 16: VARANASI – AGRA
We will go down to the Ganges in the early morning for sunrise boat rides and to witness the ritual bathings and offerings made by faithful pilgrims to the Sun Goddess. After breakfast, we take a charter flight to Agra.
Day 7: Wednesday, February 17: AGRA – JAIPUR
A special sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world, and considered by some to be the greatest monument to love ever built. Return to the hotel for a late breakfast and begin our road trip to Jaipur, The Pink City.
Day 8: Thursday, February 18: JAIPUR
After breakfast, we will have a slower morning and you will have the option to relax by the pool or hike up to the local mountain temple. Later, we will have a cricket match and high tea at Samode Bagh, and an evening visit to the beautiful Birla temple. Accommodation: Jai Mahal Palace.
Day 9: Friday, February 19: JAIPUR
After breakfast, we will start the day with an elephant ride up to the top of Amber Fort and then a visit to the famous block printing textile factory. Accommodation: JaI Mahal Palace
Day 10: Saturday, February 20: JAIPUR – CHENNAI
This morning, we fly to Chennai down in southern India, and visit the St Thomas Cathedral and a Zoroastrian Fire Temple. Accommodation: Leela Palace
Day 11: Sunday, February 21: CHENNAI
Today is our day to visit Rising Star Outreach and spend time in the colonies afflicted by leprosy and with the kids on the Rising Star campus. Accommodation: Leela Palace
Day 12: Monday, February 22: CHENNAI
Our last day in India! We have a slower morning to sleep in, have a nice breakfast, and pack your bags (or go out on another adventure if you want!) In the late afternoon, we will proceed to Mahabalipuram, the Shore Temple for our farewell message at sunset. Accommodation: Overnight at Hotel Leela Palace
Day 13: Tuesday, February 23: Goodbye, India!
Most international flights leave the Chennai Airport in the late-night hours of February 22 or in the early morning of February 23.
