Rhine River Cruise 202116 day cruise/tour - June 16 --- July 1, 2021
We are extremely excited about this special tour and cruise we have created. The second most popular cruise itinerary in Europe is on the Romantic Rhine. You will also enjoy the windmills in Amsterdam, the Cathedral in Cologne (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and sail through possibly the most beautiful area offered on any river cruise. The 40-mile section of the Middle Rhine Valley – its castles, historic towns and vineyards are so beautiful that it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also visit the quaint old section of Strasbourg, France and the tiny country of Lichtenstein. There are many highlights on this tour.

Day 4: June 19: Munich – Oberammergau
This morning we will travel into the German Alps. We plan, if possible, to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, which was the inspiration for Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty Castle”. Then we will go to Oberammergau where we will be staying for the next two nights.

Day 7: June 22: Grindelwald
Today is a big highlight day!! We will drive into a beautiful glacier-cut valley where you will see jaw-dropping rock formations and waterfalls. A little bit further, in this same valley, you visit the Trümmelbachfälle, a series of ten waterfalls “inside” the mountain!! It is truly one of the natural wonders of the world. Then we will drive to the Lauterbrunnen train station where we take a cogwheel train to Kleine Schediegg. You will enjoy the majestic wide-screen panoramic view of the Jungfrau Group during your train ride. Overnight Grindelwald.
Day 8: June 23: Grindelwald – Zermatt
We will depart our hotel early morning for the train station that will take us to Zermatt. The train will take us through Switzerland’s beautiful Alps. On arrival, we will have free time to enjoy this picturesque town and the Matterhorn. There will also be an additional option at an extra cost for those who want to take the cogwheel mountain train up to the Gornergrat at over 10,000 feet! From there you have the opportunity to see the highest mountains of your trip, including a majestic view of the Matterhorn. After our visit to Zermatt, we will return to Grindelwald to overnight.
Day 9: June 24: Grindelwald – Basel
Today we will travel from Grindelwald to Basel. We will explore Basel before we board our AmaWaterways ship. Tomorrow morning we will set sail on the Rhine for Amsterdam.
Important Note: Amawaterways includes premium shore excursions at no additional cost. The Fun For Less Tours owners have tweaked and made slight improvements to a couple of the ship’s shore excursions to add a few things that they felt were missing. Thanks to our negotiations this will not cost extra. In many of the ports of call, the ship may offer different shore excursions, often including a bicycle tour. Our owners have selected, what they felt to be the best shore excursion for each port. After you arrive at the ship if you decide that you would like to make a change to a different tour you can make that change onboard.
Day 10: June 25: Breisach
Shore excursion to Riquewihr France: A beautiful preserved picturesque ancient walled village. It has not changed for hundreds of years.
Day 11: June 26: Strasbourg France – stunning beauty
We have tweaked this special tour to include the Mont Saint-Odile Abby, which is not included with AmaWaterways. Later we will do the AmaWaterways Strasbourg City Tour with free time in Strasbourg.
Day 12: June 27: Speyer
During the day we will do the Heidelberg Castle Tour with free time in Heidelberg. In the evening we will visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet – well worth the visit!
Day 13: June 28: Rüdesheim – Rhine Gorge sailing a World Heritage section of the Rhine.
There are approximately 40 castles and fortresses along the Rhine Gorge. This part of the Rhine is a major highlight. In Rudesheim, you will also enjoy a Gondola Ride with some free time in the Village.
Day 14: June 29: Cologne
