Rhine River Cruise 202116 day cruise/tour - June 16 --- July 1, 2021
We are extremely excited about this special tour and cruise we have created. The second most popular cruise itinerary in Europe is on the Romantic Rhine. You will also enjoy the windmills in Amsterdam, the Cathedral in Cologne (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and sail through possibly the most beautiful area offered on any river cruise. The 40-mile section of the Middle Rhine Valley – its castles, historic towns and vineyards are so beautiful that it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also visit the quaint old section of Strasbourg, France and the tiny country of Lichtenstein. There are many highlights on this tour.

Day 1: June 16: Fly to Amsterdam
Fly from the US to Amsterdam.
Day 2: June 17: Amsterdam
Upon arrival in Amsterdam, you will be met by our tour managers. Today you will do a city tour of Amsterdam including Zaanse Schans open-air Museum with several working windmills. After our tour, we will head to our ship parked in a perfect location to explore more of Amsterdam on your own.
Important Note: Amawaterways includes premium shore excursions at no additional cost. The Fun For Less Tours owners have tweaked and made slight improvements to a couple of the ships shore excursions to add a few things that they felt were missing. Thanks to our negotiations this will not cost extra. In many of the ports of call, the ship may offer different shore excursions, often including a bicycle tour. Our owners have selected, what they felt to be the best shore excursion for each port. After you arrive at the ship if you decide that you would like to make a change to a different tour you can make that change onboard.
Day 3: June 18: Amsterdam
Today we will be enjoying tours from your AmaWaterways ship. It includes a boat ride through some of the 165 canals in Amsterdam and a city tour by bus. Early afternoon your ship will set sail for Cologne.
Day 4: June 19: Cologne
Our ship arrives around 1 pm into Cologne. We have tweaked today’s tour to include the Schloss Berg Castle in Solingen, which is not normally included with an AmaWaterways shore excursion. We will be combining the castle with AmaWaterway’s Cologne Walking tour and the Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 5: June 20: Rhine Gorge sailing, a World Heritage section of the Rhine – Rüdesheim
This morning you will want to be on deck as we sail through the most beautiful section of the Rhine. The Rhine Gorge section of the Rhine is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Rhine Gorge is approximately 40 miles long, with around 40 castles and fortresses that can be seen from the river. In Rudesheim, you will enjoy a Gondola Ride that gives you wonderful views of the hills and Rhine River. The old town is also fun to visit. Later in the day, we highly recommend visiting Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum.
Day 6: June 21: Ludwigshafen
During the day, we take the Heidelberg Castle Tour, which includes free time in Heidelberg.
Day 7: June 22: Strasbourg France – stunning beauty
We have tweaked this special tour to include the ancient Mont Saint-Odile Abby on top of a mountain. It is not included with AmaWaterways shore excursions. We have combined the Abby with AmaWaterways Strasburg city tour and free time. Today is a highlight day!
Day 8: June 23: Breisach
Shore excursion to Riquewihr France: A beautiful preserved picturesque ancient walled village. It has not changed for hundreds of years.
Day 9: June 24: Bern – Grindelwald
Today we leave our luxury ship and head deeper into Switzerland to Bern where we will tour the UNESCO Heritage part of Bern, Switzerland. Then we head into the high Alps, passing through Spiez and Interlaken, enjoying the pristine pastures and beautiful lakes. Our final destination is the mountain resort of Grindelwald. The village of Grindelwald is located in the heart of the Jungfrau Region at the foot of the Eiger North Face. We spend three nights in Grindelwald.
Day 10: June 25: Grindelwald Area
Today is a big highlight day!! We will drive into a beautiful glacier-cut valley where you will see jaw-dropping rock formations and waterfalls. A little bit further, in this same valley, you visit the Trümmelbachfälle, a series of ten waterfalls “inside” the mountain!! It is truly one of the natural wonders of the world. Then we will drive to the Lauterbrunnen train station, where we take a cogwheel train to Kleine Schediegg. You will enjoy the majestic wide-screen panorama of the Jungfrau Group from your train ride. Overnight Grindelwald.
Day 11: June 26: Zermatt – Grindelwald
We will depart our hotel early morning to a train station that will take us to Zermatt. The train will take us through Switzerland’s beautiful Alps. On arrival, we will have free time to enjoy this picturesque town and the Matterhorn. Weather permitting, there will also be an additional option at an extra cost for those who want to take the cog-wheel mountain train up to the Gornergrat at over 10,000 ft! From there, you have the opportunity to see the highest mountains of your trip, including a majestic view of the Matterhorn. After our visit to Zermatt, we will take the train back to Grindelwald area overnight.
