Mississippi River Paddle Boat

Memphis to New Orleans American Queen Paddle Wheel Steamboat 9 day cruise/tour - November 25, 2018

Haven’t you always wanted or dreamed about taking a big paddleboat ride on the Mississippi River? Isn’t it on your bucket list of things you would want to experience? We decided it was time to slow down and make that dream come true! We looked at the many steamboat ships and their itineraries on the Mississippi. We even talked to people who had traveled by steamboat on the Mississippi. After our research we came to the following conclusions:

We looked at the many steamboat ships and their itineraries on the Mississippi. We even talked to people who had traveled by steamboat on the Mississippi. After our research we came to the following conclusions:

  • The paddle wheel steamboat we wanted most was the American Queen. It is the largest steamboat ever built to sail the Mississippi. It recently received a $6.5 million spruce-up to make the Victorian décor – chandeliers, upholstery, polished wood, etc. –POP. Cabins got new bedding and flat screen TVs. We loved the look and feel of what it was like 100 years ago to take a steamboat on the Mississippi. Critics have said the American Queen is delightful and feels like a small and historic boutique hotel.

River Cruise Description

The excitement, fun, and relaxation of a Mississippi paddle boat cruise combined with the study of the Civil War with Dr. S. Michael Wilcox. This fantastic paddle boat cruise starts in Memphis, Tennesse and travels the Mississippi to New Orleans. When you combine the American Queen Paddle Steamboat package with our optional 4 day, 3-night extension package you will experience it all. Our optional extension package has added two full days of touring in Memphis, Tennesse.  In Memphis, our optional tour package includes one night in a deluxe hotel before the cruise along with two full days of touring. Our tours of Memphis and the surrounding area includes the Civil War site of Shiloh, the home of Elvis Presley’s Graceland and the birthplace of rock and roll – Sun Studio. “If music were a religion, then Memphis would be Jerusalem and Sun Studio it’s most holy shrine.”  We will then board our beautiful American Queen Paddle Boat Steamer for our 8-day 7-night cruise on the Mississippi River. You will enjoy wonderful stops along the Mississippi including the famous Civil War site Vicksburg.  We then spend 2 nights in New Orleans after your cruise.  We will spend the 2 days of visiting everything from Bourbon Street to an authentic Cajun experience – a boat ride on the Bayou. We have even included Mardi Gras World Studio where they are in the middle of building next year’s Mardi Gras floats.

You do not want to be touring or sailing the Mississippi in the heat of 90 plus degrees and 90 to 100% humidity. We have picked the perfect time of year, the end of November in the South has the best temperatures. Our Mississippi River Cruise starts the Sunday after Thanksgiving in 2018 (November 25). Thanksgiving is over, the Friday after Thanksgivings maniac shopping is over and the Christmas parties haven’t started. The average temperature at the time of our sailing is 70 degrees in New Orleans and the vast majority of our stops the average temperatures range 65 to 70. There are fewer crowds along with perfect touring and walking temperatures.

Another reason this is the perfect time of year. New Orleans lights up for Christmas Thanksgiving weekend. We will see the pageantry and beauty of Christmas in New Orleans and other cities as we travel the Mississippi without the cold temperatures of Christmas. Consider all this has to offer: The BEST in educators, a fantastic Mississippi paddle boat cruise, Christmas Lights & pageantry, all while avoiding stifling heat and humidity.

Important Note: The price shown in our complete package is for an inside cabin. The American Queen has numerous categories of cabins from insides to large suites. For doubles (two in a cabin) there are two categories of inside cabins, 1 category of window cabins and 8 categories of Veranda cabins that open from your room right onto the ships deck. All double cabins can be two twin beds or one queen bed. For the very BEST experience on a Riverboat, we highly recommend an upgrade to a Veranda Cabin!!
