Itinerary
Christmas Markets Day by Day Itinerary:
(This is a partial list and is subject to change as needed to accomplish everything we can in each area we visit.)
Day 1: November 29: Fly
Today we fly from the United States to Prague, Czech Republic.
Day 2: November 30: Nuremberg – Prague
Today we will arrive late afternoon into Prague. Before checking into our 4-Star Deluxe Hotel, we will take a cruise on the Modau River in Prague. Overnight Prague.
Day 3: December 1: Prague
Today we will explore the castle area, along with a tour of Prague. This afternoon and evening you will have time to explore the fantastic Prague Christmas Markets, considered number one on many lists of the best Christmas Markets.
Day 4: December 2: Prague – Dresden – Prague
This morning we will drive the approximate 2 hours to Dresden. One of the most impressive cities in Germany. The Dresden Christmas Markets consist of brightly decorated wooden huts, each is stocked with unique local handicrafts or traditional Christmas treats. The Dresden Christmas Market is the oldest Christmas Market in Germany. After our time in Dresden, we will return to our deluxe hotel in Prague to overnight.
Day 5: December 3: Prague – Rothenburg Ob der Tabor – Nuremberg
We board our ship in Nuremberg which is less than an hour drive from Europe’s best walled village of Rothenburg ob der Tabor. We can’t get this close and miss this wonderful walled village and its Christmas Markets. After our visit to Rothenburg, we will head to Nuremberg where we will visit Nuremberg’s Christkindles market, one of the world’s largest and most famous Christmas Markets in Europe. Early this evening we will check into our AmaWaterways cruise ship in time to enjoy dinner on the ship.
Day 6: December 4: Nuremberg
This morning will then take a city tour of WWII highlights and walk through the cobblestone streets to the Imperial Castle and 900-year-old city ramparts. You will also have time to again visit the Nuremberg Christmas Markets. Late this afternoon we take in the beautiful scenery as the ship crosses the Continental Divide via the Main-Danube Canal headed to the River Danube.
Day 7: December 5: Regensburg
Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities. Your guided walking tour showcases the city’s architectural highlights, including the Old Town Hall and Porta Praetoria, before visiting its Christmas Market. Later in the day, you will be treated to one of Bavaria’s most beautiful and romantic Christmas Markets at Thurn and Taxis, where you can watch artisans make their unique arts and crafts.
Day 8: December 6: Passau – Salzburg – Passau
Today we take a full-day excursion to Salzburg, Austria which is known for its many famous Christmas Markets and as being the birthplace of Mozart. We also will enjoy a walking tour through the UNESCO old town, its magnificent cathedral and the Heilbronn Palace, and its beautiful Christmas Market.
Day 9: December 7: Melk
This morning we will enjoy a scenic cruise through the Strudengau Valley. This afternoon we visit the Melk Abby, one of Europe’s most revered Baroque monasteries, and the magnificent Benedictine Abby.
Day 10: December 8: Vienna
Our included shore excursion will visit the majestic Opera House and the former Imperial Palace of the Hapsburgs before concluding in Vienna’s historic city center, before visiting Vienna’s Christmas Markets. During the afternoon we will visit the Schonbrunn Palace with its giant sparkling Christmas tree and its wonderful Christmas Markets. We cap off the day with a “Vienna by Night” visit to the Christmas Markets at the beautifully decorated Town Hall, Vienna’s largest Christmas Market.
Day 11: December 9: Budapest
Today will be a full-day tour to many of Budapest’s most iconic sights. Your tour will include views of the Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and the marvelous Royal Palace, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Heroes Square and so much more. Later we will explore the beautiful Christmas Markets. Tonight is last night on our beautiful luxury AmaWaterways ship.
Day 12: December 10: Budapest – Zegreb
This morning we will drive approximately 4 hours to Zagreb. For the many years we have been tracking Christmas Markets – most of those years it was considered the number 1 Christmas Markets in Europe. We will do a tour of Zagreb before heading to their famous Christmas Markets.
Day 13: December 11: Fly Home
This morning we will fly back to the US and back home.
