In 1997 Norwegian legislation determined that in order to be considered a city, there must be a population of at least 5,000. When the Honningsvagians learned of the impeding legislation they rushed to have their status as a city declared, thus preserving its status as the norther most city in Europe! For those that have signed up for our optional shore excursion package we will start by driving across the barren landscape of the Arctic tundra of Mageroya to the North Cape cliff.
