Tour Information

The River Cruise Portion of our Package

We have combined a fantastic Rhine River Cruise (Amsterdam to Basel, Switzerland) with a fantastic land tour in Switzerland and France.  The tour portion starts in Paris, visiting all of the important sites, then travels by high-speed train to Switzerland. The major highlights of this tour will be the Rhine River Cruise and your stay in the quaint picturesque village Grindelwald at the base of the Eiger. We have included a clog train, waterfalls inside a mountain, cable cars, high-speed trains and so much more to go along with your fantastic River Cruise. You will absolutely love the many castles you will see along the way. Join us on a wonderful romantic Rhine River cruise.

We had several goals when we started negotiating with river cruise lines in Europe to take our groups:

  • #1: Quality of ship: AmaWaterways has won almost everyone’s award as the best cruise line in Europe, even beating out Viking.
  • #2: Shore excursions: Shore excursions are included with River Cruising in Europe. Amma waterways have worked with us for our group to create the BEST shore excursions possible.
  • #3: Lower the pricing: By doing partial or full charters, we were able to save our passengers up to $1,000 PER PERSON! On some sailings the cruise company offers $250 per person discount, but NO ONE EVER offers a $600 to $1,000 per person discount, especially when you consider the extra costs to do enhanced shore excursions, the costs of bringing our Fun For Less Tours staff and the costs of bringing Dr. S. Michael Wilcox as a guest educator during the Rhine River Cruise. YES, the cruise line made us an unbelievable deal!!!
  • Look at OUR special savings over the cruise lines prices for 2019 Cabins.
    • Cat D Two Large Port Hole Windows – 160 square Feet:
      2019 Ship Price: $3,794 MINUS our $600 savings – you pay $3,194

  • In order to get the savings needed to lower the price for our customers and do our own designed enhanced shore excursions, we committed to doing ½ to full ship charters. The cruise line needs charters to be sold in advance of normal sales. That means we need to sell our portion of the ship now so we can pass the savings on to you!

We have also added an additional educator for the France (including Normandy Beaches) and Switzerland land portion. Jeff Lawson is an expert on Normandy, Paris and Switzerland (he has done over 20 tours to this area). Dr. S. Michael Wilcox will be giving his lectures on the Rhine River Cruise portion.

Day 1: June 7: Fly to Amsterdam
Fly from the US to Amsterdam.

Day 2: June 8: Amsterdam
Upon arrival into Amsterdam, you will be met by our tour managers.  Today you will visit two major sites.  The Ann Frank House and the Zaanse Schans open-air Museum with several working windmills.  After our tour, we will head to our ship parked in a perfect location to explore more of Amsterdam on your own.

Important Note: The owners of Fun For Less Tours experienced an AmaWaterways sailing between Basel and Amsterdam in 2018. They were more than impressed. Having sailed with other river cruise companies they were worried they would have to arrange or change all of the shore excursions. Other companies, give few choices, have additional fees for some of their shore excursions and often include several wineries where they can get extra commissions from the sales. To their surprise, AmaWaterways far exceeded their expectations. In many of the ports of call they had several choices of tours, none of which cost extra. The owners were so pleased with AmaWaterways selection of shore excursions, they found there was very little they would change. The Fun For Less Tours owners have tweaked and made slight improvements to a couple of shore excursions. AmaWaterways already included premium tours at no additional cost. There was very little we needed to change. In many of the ports of call, the ship may offer different shore excursions, often including a bicycle tour. Our owners have selected, what they felt to be the best shore excursion for each port. After you arrive at the ship, if you decide that you would like to make a change to a different tour you can make that change on board.

Day 3: June 9: Amsterdam
Today we will be enjoying tours from your AmaWaterways ship.  It includes a boat ride through many of the 165 canals in Amsterdam and a city tour by bus.  Early afternoon your ship will set sail for Cologne.

Day 4: June 10: Cologne
Our ship arrives around 1 pm into Cologne.  We have tweaked today’s tour to include the Schloss Berg Castle in Solingen, which is not normally included with an AmaWaterways shore excursion. We will be combining the castle with AmaWaterway’s Cologne Walking tour and the Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 5: June 11: Rhine Gorge sailing, a World Heritage section of the Rhine – Rüdesheim –This morning you will want to be on deck as we sail through the most beautiful section of the Rhine.  The Rhine Gorge section of the Rhine is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The Rhine Gorge is approximately 40 miles long with around 40 castles and fortresses that can be seen from the river.  In Rudesheim, you will enjoy a Gondola Ride that gives you wonderful views of the hills and Rhine River.  The old town is also fun to visit.  Later in the day, we highly recommend visiting the Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum.

Day 6: June 12: Ludwigshafen
During the day we take the Heidelberg Castle Tour which includes free time in Heidelberg.

Day 7: June 13: Strasbourg France – stunning beauty
We have tweaked this special tour to include the ancient Mont Saint-Odile Abby on top of a mountain.  It is not included with AmaWaterways shore excursions.  We have combined the Abby with AmaWaterways Strasburg city tour and free time.  Today is a highlight day!

Day 8: June 14: Breisach
Shore excursion to Riquewihr France: A beautiful preserved picturesque ancient walled village.  It has not changed for hundreds of years.
