See the #1 Castle in the World!

Prague, Istanbul, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Dracula & The Transylvania Alps
This unique and fantastic itinerary designed by Fun For Less Tours gives you the “best of the best” Europe has to offer.   When it comes to great cities, culture, beauty and history, this tour has it all. When you are through you will say, “this is the best tour in all of Europe.”   In addition to visiting our favorite city of Istanbul, you will see and experience three of the top five walled cities in Europe, and three of the top 5 ancient castles, including what we consider to be the best castle in the world!  This special tour will deliver more “ooh’s and aah’s” highlight days than any other tour you could take! It really is the best of the best of European countries!

Here is a partial list of all you will see and experience

  • Istanbul Turkey: One of the top 5 cities in the world. It’s like stepping into another world.
  • Romania: This is our favorite country in Europe! Here is a taste of what Romania has to offer:
    • Count Vlad Dracula (yes, there was a Count Dracula) and the Transylvania Alps. Next to the Alps these are the most impressive mountains in Europe.
    • Sinaia: nestled in beautiful mountains, this small town has what we consider the #1 castle in the world – Pales Castle! It is beautiful on the outside but unbelievable on the inside.
    • Castle Hunedoara: This 14th Century Castle was voted as the scariest place on earth. Count Vlad Dracula was held prisoner for 7 years in Castle Hunedoara during the 1400’s.
    • The walled cities of Sibiu and Sighisoara are two of the best preserved walled cities in all of Europe.
  • Budapest Hungary: It is the combination of two ancient towns, Buda & Pest. They were located across from each other on the Danube River and today they are one city.
  • Vienna Austria: It is a beautiful city filled with music, palaces and cobblestone streets.
  • Salzburg Austria: The sound of Music, ancient old town and a fantastic fortress.
  • Prague Czech Republic: Twice the capital of the world. This is one of the great cities of the world and should not be missed.
This is only a partial list, we visit many other towns and villages as we tour Exotic Europe,
we even take a day cruise on the Danube. We highly recommend you put this tour at the top of your list.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: August 26: Fly to Istanbul

Day 2: August 27: Istanbul
After our arrival into Istanbul we will tour the magnificent Hagia Sofia, Hippodrome and the stadium of ancient Byzantium, where an Egyptian obelisk and bronze sculpture of the entwined serpents from Delphi still survive. We then continue on to the Blue Mosque, which owes its name to the exquisite tiles adorning its interior. In the afternoon we will visit the amazing Topkapi Palace, which from the 15th to the 19th Century was the principle residence of the Ottoman Sultans.  If there is any time this evening remaining we will try to stop at the Grand Bazaar to give you some free time to shop in this gigantic flee market.  Overnight Istanbul.
Day 3: August 28: Istanbul
We will finish touring any missed sites from the day before in Istanbul.  We will overnight in Istanbul.
Day 4: August 29: Istanbul - Bucharest
This morning we will transfer to the airport for our flight to Bucharest.  Upon arrival we will have a Bucharest city tour including Ceausescu’s “House of the People,” the world’s second largest building after the Pentagon.  You will also visit the Revolution Square and Village Museum, one of the oldest and largest outdoor museums in Europe.  Overnight Bucharest.
Day 5: August 30: Sinaia - Brasov
This morning we will drive the approximate 80 miles to the mountain resort of Sinaia.  Sinaia is often referred to as the “Pearl of the Carpathians.”  This beautiful valley contains three castles, one of which we consider one of the most beautiful castles in the world – the Peles Castle.  We will then drive 30 miles to Brasov.  This city is nestled in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains.  This location made it an ideal settting for a medieval city.
Day 6: August 31: Brasov
Today we will tour Bran Castle, often referred to as Dracula’s Castle.  Though there is little concrete proof, many historians agree that Vlad Tepes (a.k.a Vlad the Impaler, whom Bram Stoker used as a model for his 1897 story-Dracula) did reside at Bran Castle during his raids in Transylvania.
Day 7: September 1: Brasov - Sibiu
This morning we will travel to Sibiu, designated the European capital of culture for 2007.  Sibiu was the largest and wealthiest of seven walled cities that were constructed in the 12th century by German settlers.  Today Sibiu has been preserved and the streets have not changed in over 500 years.  The center of town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 8: September 2: Sighisoara - Sibiu
Today we will travel the short distance to the walled city of Sighisoara.  Sighisoara is another of the seven citadels constructed by the German settlers in the 12th Century.  Walking along the magical cobbled alleyways in the shadow of one of the nine towers transports you back in time.  It is possibly the best walled city in Eastern Europe.  The city is also the birthplace to the infamous Vlad Tepes otherwise known as Count Vlad Dracula.  After our city tour, if time permits you will have free time to explore this picturesque city.  We will return to Sibiu and overnight.
Day 9: September 3: Hunedoara - Arad
This morning we drive to Hunedoara Castle, nestled in the Transylvania Alps.  Recently the castle has gained notoriety and was named one of the scariest places in the world.  The castle held Count Vlad Dracula for 7 years.  After our tour of this fantastic castle, we will continue to Arad near the border of Hungary to overnight.
Day 10: September 4: Arad - Budapest
Today we leave Arad and continue to Budapest.  Our sightseeing tour of Budapest will include a visit to Buda Hills, St. Mathias Church and the Fishermen’s Bastions.  Continuing on to the elegant part of Pest, we stop at the Hero’s square.  Overnight Budapest.
Day 11: September 5: Budapest - Vienna
Today we will travel to Vienna and start our city tour.  Overnight Vienna.
Day 12: September 6: Vienna
We take a tour to the famous Schonbrunn Palace.  We will spend the rest of the day touring Vienna, the old town, St Stephen’s Cathedral with some free time to explore and shop on your own before returning to the hotel.
Day 13: September 7: Vienna - Salzburg
On our way to Salzburg we will drive to Durnstein. We board a boat and sail on the Danube through the Danube Canyon from Durstein to Melk.  In Melk we pass by the abbey. We continue to Salzburg where we overnight.
Day 14: September 8: Salzburg
While in Salzburg you may feel as if you have slipped into the “Sound Of Music.”  We will spend the morning touring Salzburg and riding the funicular up to the fortress, Hohensalzburg.  This afternoon we will have time to relax and shop in the old town.  Overnight Salzburg.
Day 15: September 9: Salzburg - Prague
This morning we cross into the Czech Republic.  We will take a break to explore the charming village of Cesky Krumlov (a UNESCO World Heritage site) on our way to Prague.  Upon arriving into Prague we will visit the Jewish Quarters before heading to our hotel and overnight.
Day 16: September 10: Prague
Today will be a highlight day as we visit our second favorite city in Europe – Prague.  We will explore the castle area, take a cruise on the Moldau River, and explore the old town.  You will also have free time to explore the ancient streets on your own.  Overnight Prague.
Day 17: September 11: Fly Home
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end.  We will transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
