He speaks fluent Spanish and served as a missionary in Mexico. He is the author of various articles in the New Era, the Ensign, The Encyclopedia of Mormonism, and most recently, in the LDS 2006 Church Almanac. Dr. Lund retired after teaching for thirty-six years in the CES Institute program. He is described as having a unique combination of gospel knowledge, deeply spiritual, with a delightful sense of humor.

Our guest lecturer will give us insights to the Book of Mormon, the peoples past and present and the sites our group will visit. Stay in luxury as you see the most significant ruins in Central America. This fantastic tour includes all of the most important Ruins that date back to Book of Mormon time. Best of all we fly from Mexico City to Palenque and we fly from Tikal to Guatemala City. These two flights eliminate 4 grueling days of driving on bad roads plus 3 or 4 nights in hotels! No other tour can offer you so much in such a short time. Other tours can take 13 or 14 days to do what we do in 9 and they will charge over $3,000.

Here is a partial list of what you will see and experience:
Mexico City: The great ruins of Teotihuacán
Ruins of Palenque: considered by many as the best in Central America
Travel by boat on the Mayan Nile – considered by many to be the River Sidon
Ruins of Yaxchilan – possible candidate for the city of Zarahemla
Ruins of Tikal: Probably the most impressive ruins in Central America
Ruins of Kaminaijuyu: Prime candidate for the city of Nephi
Guatemala City: The once vast city of Nephi is probably the city that’s buried beneath this capital.
Lake Atitlan: prime candidate for the “Waters of Mormon”.

After breakfast we will board our coaches for the Usumacinta River on the Mexico- Guatemala boarder. Here we will board tribal long boats for our journey down river to the ancient ruins of Yaxchilan – possible candidate for Zarahemla. Here, in the pristine Guatemala rain forest, you may see and hear the famous Howler and spider monkeys high in the jungle canopy, crocodiles sunning on the river bank and evidence of a once vast now lost civilization that boggles the mind. We will then travel back up the river where we will cross over to the Guatemala side to board our Guatemala buses for our drive to Tikal. We will spend the night at our luxury hotel on the shores of Lake Peten.

Day 5: September 02: Tikal

The Lonely Planet Guide calls Lake Atitlan “The closest thing to Eden on Earth.” The tour begins with an early morning departure for the highlands and the beautiful Lake Atitlan.
